“Self Portrait” is a limited edition screenprint by Chuck Close, a contemporary and photorealistic artist known for his larger-than-life portraits. Since 1968, with his groundbreaking piece “Mark” (of the artist Mark Greenwold), Close has been creating realistic portraits using grids to transfer images to the canvas. In his early works, the artist emulates the feeling of a photograph—not only making his subjects look realistic but also capturing characteristics often produced by a camera, such as background blurring. Like his other works, Close defines facial features in his self portrait by combining many small, geometric forms to create a collage of colorful shapes. The signed and numbered artwork measures 65 inches tall and 54 inches wide.
