Etienne Cournault was a French artist, decorator, engraver and painter known for his dreamlike artistic style.

He studied at the National School of Art in Nancy before moving to Paris where he was discovered by the famous collector Jacques Doucet.

He collaborated with the renowned silversmith Jean Després for whom he designed small-scale reverse-painted glass pieces that were set into jewellery such as brooches and pendants.

There was a retrospective exhibition ‘La part du rêve’ at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and Nancy in 2015-16. His works can be seen in Museum of Modern Art in New York City and Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
