Untitled from The New York Collection for Stockholm

By Kenneth Noland

Kenneth Noland (1924–2010) was an American abstract painter and a leading figure in the Color Field movement. He is best known for his bold use of geometric shapes—such as concentric circles, chevrons, and stripes—and vibrant, unmodulated color. Influenced by Helen Frankenthaler and the Washington Color School, Noland emphasized flatness and the emotional impact of color over narrative or symbolism. His work played a key role in the evolution of postwar American abstraction.
