By Kerry James Marshall

Kerry James Marshall is an American artist best known for his paintings exploring Black identity, history, and representation. His works often depict Black figures with deep, solid-black skin tones, challenging the traditional absence or limited representation of Black people in Western art. He combines influences from European painting, popular culture, and African American history. Marshall is regarded as one of the most important contemporary artists addressing race and representation in art.
