In 2003, this French conceptual artist elaborated with us an ambitious project: Nuancier, a set of 600 lithographs. The team digitized and enlarged 17 images from the artist’s book Danser ou mourir, then printed each image in seven shades of the same colour from dark to light, with five copies of every variation. The project was inspired by the artist’s visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, where she was moved by the sight of a Japanese woman making origami birds to evoke children lost in the war. The prints, moving from light to dark, act as a metaphor for fading memory.
