This was the first printmaking experience for Melanie Delattre-Vogt, who works exclusively in graphite on paper. Since 2015, she has been making a series of lithographs inspired by a 1970s instruction manual on freezing foods — a pair of hands manipulating squid, ducks, pigs or a bunch of rhubarb. Since the surface of a lithographic stone is rougher than paper and a lithographic crayon is greasier than hard pencil, she shifted from her usual small scale, opting for a larger format that permitted her to conserve her refined drawing style.
