Paul Wackers paints with the tradition of the still life in mind. Window ledges and shelving units busy with potted plants, colorful vessels, and abstract knicknacks fill his compositions, which seem to vibrate with the activity of someone’s everyday routine. In Grow in Place and In the Waiting Room, Wackers focuses this ability to distill order from the chaos of a flower arrangement – capturing the levity of a field in motion to contrast the tightly cropped interior space of each two-toned backdrop.
