Artwork details

Title
Torso
Description

In "Torso", a cropped view of a reclining figure, the sensuous contours of the female form contrast with the hard permanence of the marble from which it was carved.

Philip Van Keuren’s images arise from everyday moments that reveal the world as both sublimely beautiful and ultimately unknowable. This print, made from the artist’s original 35mm negative using the historical photogravure technique, was hand-printed in black ink from a single etched copper plate. It belongs to a series of forty photogravures collectively titled "Toward What Sun?"
