ONE OF ONLY FOUR IMPRESSIONS PRINTED OF THIS EXTRAORDINARY GYPSOGRAPH, BY THE INVENTOR OF THE MEDIUM.

Gypsographs are printed and embossed using the original plaster moulds, which break very easily–the editions are thus tiny. Roche also invented the gypsotype, printed from a metal cast of the original mould. These were used for somewhat larger editions. Some dealers apparently don’t know the difference, and describe gypsotypes as gypsographs.

Signed by Roche and warmly inscribed to art critic Charles Saunier, who had written a very favorable review of Roche’s work in the Revue Blanche (tome XXIII, n°117, 15 octobre 1900.)

The only other known impression, in the Petit Palais (the Musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris) features far more somber colors.

Printed on fine Japanese paper.

Signed by the artist.

In perfect condition.
