Arty-Fact: Carlo Ponti married Sophia Loren in Mexico in 1957 while still legally married in Italy. Divorce was not recognised under Italian law at the time. The marriage was invalid. Ponti was charged with bigamy. The couple faced prosecution and temporary exile before later obtaining French citizenship and remarrying legally in 1966.

The warning text in the work – “No Trespassing. Violators will be prosecuted.” – echoes that legal reality.

Pure Evil overlays cinematic glamour with the language of corporate and institutional authority, reflecting public scrutiny that followed their 1957 marriage.
