Description

Los Angeles Olympic Games Poster

By Raymond Saunders

Raymond Saunders (born 1934) is an American artist known for his bold, mixed-media works that combine painting, collage, and found objects. His art often explores themes of race, identity, and social justice, while rejecting the idea that Black artists must focus solely on racial subject matter. Saunders uses chalkboard-like surfaces, text, and layered imagery to create complex visual narratives. A vital voice in contemporary American art, he challenges both artistic and cultural boundaries with a fiercely independent approach.
