Sebastião Salgado (Brazilian, b. 1944) is known for his work in social documentary photography and photojournalism. He began work as an economist for the International Coffee Organization, a post with which he often traveled to Africa. This began his relationship with photography, as he later chose to abandon his career as an economist.
