Shortly before publisher Catherine Putman unexpectedly passed away, she and I were planning to launch a line of co-editions with several of our favourite artists. Unfortunately, fate decided otherwise — our first and only project would be four images by Bertrand Lavier. He made a suite of his Walt Disney Productions, inspired by an episode in a Mickey Mouse comic about a visit to the Museum of Modern Art, which we printed with a photogravure screen made up of organic points. Upon seeing the first trials, he exclaimed: “That’s exactly the effect I’ve been avoiding all my life. It looks like a Seurat. I love it! Let’s go!”
