The Artist

Charles Avery

Avery was born in Oban, Scotland and currently lives in London. He studied a foundation course at Chelsea College of Art but is fundamentally self-taught. He sees all of his work as one of two categories: atomic and mystic. The work he calls atomic is abstract and geometrical and mystic consists of figurative pencil drawings; they are often exhibited together. His work demonstrates his interest in the philosopher Wittgenstein, who originally inspired him to separate his art into atomic and mystic.
