Growing is one of Hockney’s home made prints. He was innovative in his printmaking and this is a fantastic example using new technology at the time, printing each layer individually to create the final print on an office colour copy machine. He aimed to create 60 prints and whatever number were successfully created defined the edition size. His series of home made prints demonstrates another step in Hockney’s printmaking techniques which has led him to the current day with his iPad drawings.
