The Artist

Estella Fransbergen

South African artist Estella Fransbergen’s breathtaking sculptures celebrate the female form and the natural world. With a background in pottery, Fransbergen became especially interested in the ancient art of raku, a Japanese technique where hand-modeled pottery is fired at a low temperature and rapidly cooled. Fransbergen incorporates raku ceramic pottery—as well as different bronze materials, gold glazes, and traditional patinas—into her sculptural objects, evoking a sense of elegance and grace.
