Untitled from The New York Collection for Stockholm
By Louise Nevelson
Louise Nevelson (1899–1988) was a pioneering American sculptor known for her monumental, monochromatic wood assemblages. She often used found wood pieces, which she painted black, white, or gold, creating complex, architectural wall sculptures that redefined the possibilities of sculpture and space. Nevelson’s work explored themes of identity, spirituality, and order within chaos, and she became a prominent figure in the male-dominated art world of the mid-20th century. Her distinctive style and bold presence made her a key voice in modern American art.
