Mary Crenshaw (b.1954) is a multidisciplinary American artist living and working in Italy. Her practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, and artist books, and has developed over several decades through sustained studio work, exhibitions in the United States and Europe.
As the artist has stated about her own practice, her work is grounded in immediacy and physical engagement with materials, and draws on Eastern philosophical notions of force, energy, and flexibility rather than Western ideas of endurance. Her process embraces chance, repetition, and material resistance, allowing painting, folding, and print-based methods to translate movement and lived experience into form.
