By Richard Diebenkorn
Richard Diebenkorn (1922–1993) was an influential American painter known for his distinctive blend of abstraction and figuration. He was a central figure in both the Abstract Expressionist movement and the Bay Area Figurative Movement. Diebenkorn is perhaps best known for his Ocean Park series—large, luminous abstractions inspired by the light and geometry of Southern California. His work is celebrated for its subtle color harmonies, layered compositions, and thoughtful spatial organization.
