Ron Gasowski, a Michigan native, received a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Washington. Gasowski began his life-long affair with art when he started customizing automobiles as a kid in Detroit. He looks on those experiences fondly as a form of assemblage and folk art.
He continued his interest in folk art when he traveled 13,000 miles to document roadside art and began teaching at Arizona State University. Using discarded materials he finds while jogging, he sees his work as a message of rebirth and resurrection. He takes what society throws away and gives it back in the form of sculpture.
He is currently a Professor Emeritus of Art at Arizona State University, teaching in the areas of intermedia and the core foundations program. His mixed media graphics and sculpture have been exhibited in museums and galleries in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Japan.
