Untitled from The New York Collection for Stockholm

By Walter De Maria

Walter De Maria (1935–2013) was an American artist associated with Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and Land Art. He is best known for large-scale, site-specific works like The Lightning Field (1977), which use natural landscapes to explore scale, geometry, and the passage of time. De Maria’s art often combines precise mathematical order with a deep sense of mystery and awe, emphasizing the viewer’s physical and emotional experience in relation to nature and space.
