Vickie Vainionpaa’s practice is an ongoing investigation into the connections and gaps between the natural and the technological, the mundane and the sublime, and the artificial and the organic. Her works are often created using generative 3D modeling software, then painted by hand using oil on canvas. The forms fluctuate between atmospheric and graphic, abstract and figurative, and artificial and natural. By embracing new digital means of reading space and content, the works draw attention to the relationship between the human hand and digital technology.
