Original colour lithograph, in 4 colours, on Curwen mould made paper, fabulous large signature and numbered by the artist in pencil. It combines hand-drawn and photo processed imagery on a zinc plate. This image is part of a series of lithographs based on classical pottery which Leach, the legend of studio pottery here in the UK, was encouraged to make by his wife Janet Leach and friend Barbara Hepworth. They were produced late in his life and form the virtual sum of his lithographic output together with the Penrith Portfolio print “Drawing for a Pot”.
Published by Curwen Press – with their studio blindstamp.

The Artist

Bernard Leach

Founded in 1920 by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, the Leach Pottery is probably the most famous and certainly the most influential studio pottery in the world. For decades it forged the shape of studio pottery production in the UK and beyond. Scores of potters, students and apprentices trained here, attracted from all across the world and creating an unusual mix of the very local and the completely global. Today the Leach Pottery is a living tribute to Bernard Leach and his legacy.
