Bernard Leach(1887‑1979) lithograph on paper. Stunning illustration of one of Leach’s iconic pots. Bernard Leach visited the Curwen Studio encouraged by Janet leach and Barbara Hepworth in his 90’s. He worked with Stanley Jones to produce these stunnign lithographs…the nextt best thing to actually owning one of the pots themselves, and with a fabulous large signature and numbering in pencil by Leach himself. With failing eyesight, these few lithographic works represent possibly his last creative acts. These prints are in fablous condition, having never been previously framed and stored in gallery archives. Presented by Curwen Studio through the Institute of Contemporary Prints to the Tate Gallery Collection in 1975.

The Artist

Bernard Leach

Founded in 1920 by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, the Leach Pottery is probably the most famous and certainly the most influential studio pottery in the world. For decades it forged the shape of studio pottery production in the UK and beyond. Scores of potters, students and apprentices trained here, attracted from all across the world and creating an unusual mix of the very local and the completely global. Today the Leach Pottery is a living tribute to Bernard Leach and his legacy.
