The “Angel” brooch is a miniature representation of the angelic figures that often appear in Niki de Saint Phalle’s work. This brooch depicts an angelic figure with outstretched wings, rendered in a colorful and abstract design. Like much of her art, this piece blends playfulness with spirituality. The angel symbolizes protection, love, and care, themes that resonate throughout her body of work.

The brooch embodies her signature style, with expressive, organic shapes that reinterpret the classic idea of an angel through dynamic, almost childlike forms and vivid colors. It exudes the same joy and exuberance found in her larger sculptures, offering a touch of whimsy to the wearer.

This colorful piece can be worn both as a brooch and as a necklace. Zamak, gold tone finished, nickel free

The Artist

Niki de Saint Phalle

French artist Niki de Saint Phalle is best known for her large, colorful sculptures of curvaceous women. Her work was often made in collaboration with her husband, Jean Tinguely, who incorporated mechanical, moving elements into her pieces. Niki de Saint Phalle’s love of colour came through in her painting as well as her sculpture, but her most famous piece has to be a series of sculptures for the fountain in Place Igor Stravinsky, Paris. The sculptures, which include a bird, an elephant and a heart, rotate continually and many spurt water. The fountain has the perfect backdrop as it is along one side of Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris’s modern art museum.
