Les Murs du Temple (2022) by Olympe Racana-Weiler is a large-format woodcut realized from a double matrix and grounded in a physical, process-oriented approach to printmaking. Through successive, rhythmic actions, the engraved surface builds into a compact pictorial field, where layering and density suggest notions of form, threshold and a hinted human face.
Mirroring her research, Racana-Weiler’s xylography translates bodily movement into engraved sign. The image emerges through a double temporality: an immediate, physical impulse followed by a sustained phase of construction and layering. Both then resulting in a non-representational work that functions as an autonomous, bodily presence where gesture, duration, and material resistance converge.
