Wilhelm Laage Biography

1868-1930. Born near Hamburg, Laage studied in his late 20's at the Gewerbeschule Hamburg and then at the Académie des beaux-arts in Karlsruhe. He became a painter and from 1896 also a printmaker in woodcut and lithography. In 1906 he was included, alongside Kandinsky, in the first exhibition of Die Brücke in Dresden. He produced a significant body of woodcuts, some printed in colours or on tinted paper.
