Hiroshi Yoshida was born in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1876. Influenced by his adoptive father, an oil painter and art teacher, Yoshida began his studies at age 19. He came to the United States for his first exhibition at 1899 at the Detroit Museum of Art; following this, he traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe before presenting his first woodcut at the famous Watanabe Print Workshop.
