His technique is impulsive: he often paints directly from imagination onto canvas, and frequently works on multiple canvases at the same time. His compositions feature curious, angular characters, often “misfits,” emerging from abstract organic masses; the figures are usually confined by the frame or “box” of the painting, giving tension between form and containment.
