This linocut from 1965 belongs to the mature period of Pablo Picasso’s printmaking, a time when he had fully mastered the expressive potential of the linoleum block. Printed on Arches wove paper, this impression is an Artist’s Proof aside from the numbered edition of fifty, hand-signed by the artist in pencil. It was published by Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris, and printed by Arnéra, Vallauris — Picasso’s long-time collaborator and one of the finest printers of his linocut period.
The composition, depicting two reclining nude women sharing tea as a cat looks on, unites humor, sensuality, and balance with the striking economy of line that defines Picasso’s late works. Through a masterful interplay of light and shadow, the artist transforms an everyday moment into a graceful study of intimacy and form. The strong contrast and clarity of impression reveal Picasso’s confidence in the linocut technique — a medium he made uniquely his own during the 1960s.
This particular impression is in impeccable condition, showing no damage, restoration, or signs of aging. The sheet retains its full margins and original freshness of paper tone.
