Provenance: King Friedrich August II (Lugt 917)
A good, pleasing impression with reasonable contrast, though the clouds are faintly printed. Trimmed just outside the borderline all round. In very good condition. 179 x 267mm.
Potter made this accomplished print when he was only 19 years old. The Shepherd was probably intended to form a pair with the artist’s Cowherd of the previous year, numbered “1”.
