Edition of 150. Original lithograph in colours on watermarked Arches wove paper, right edge deckled. Signed in pencil lower right by Chagall, numbered lower left. Image size: 62 x 46.3 cm. Sheet size: 74.5 x 52.8 cm. Framed size: 91 x 69.3 cm.

Presented in a hand made white gold leaf frame with conservation acrylic glazing.

Margins lightly toned, two pieces of tape residue from previous hinging to head of verso and a touch of skinning to foot of verso, otherwise a bright impression in very good condition.

One of 12 prints from the Twelve Maquettes of Stained Glass Windows for Jerusalem created for the synagogue at the Hadassah-Hebrew Medical Centre in Jerusalem. Printed by Charles Sorlier, Paris.

The Artist

Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall began using printmaking techniques when he was 35 years old. He produced a lot of lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts while residing in Berlin, Germany, during the time. The art dealer Vollard hired Chagall in 1923 to illustrate the Bible, La Fontaine’s Fables, and The Dead Souls by Gogol.
