Celebrated artists tend to be those artists who have withstood the test of time and who have remain relevant and known to the world outside of the art world. Many celebrated artists have become household names.

What makes some artists famous and others fade into obscurity? Celebrated artists are the ones that capture a time, a place, an idea or spear head a new artistic movement.

Celebrated artists’ artwork adorn galleries the world over with many of their works worth hundreds of millions of dollars on the rare occasions that they come up for auction.

Arts, fame, talent, all blend together with subjectivity in high doses, which makes it difficult to evaluate how one artist is greater than another or which one is better. In other words, it’s almost impossible to define the best or the most celebrated, but history in general could be of more than a little help on the matter.

The fame of the greatest artists goes beyond centuries and people in general tend to remember those names more than somebody who didn’t shine too bright, so relying on the general opinion of people across various periods of our history could provide a clear enough answer.
