The Artist

Jorge Galindo

Jorge Galindo is renowned for his mixed-media paintings that incorporate elements of gestural abstraction and collage. Galindo’s early works were inspired by Dadaists like Hannah Höch; he created photomontages from transposed images taken from vintage calendars, postcards, and illustrated magazines. In later works—such as the figurative series “Pintura animal” (1999)—Galindo subverts his prior decorative motifs with disturbing collages of hybrid creatures covered in Pollock-like paint splatters. Galindo’s recent works explore abstractions of flowers, as seen in his 2019 and 2021 collaborations with director Pedro Almodóvar, and his 2021 joint exhibition with Julian Schnabel. Galindo’s paintings have been exhibited in notable institutions such as the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C.
