This original etching and aquatint is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Max Ernst” at the lower right margin. It is hand numbered in pencil from the edition of 99, at the lower left margin. There were also 14 hors commerce [out of trade] impressions aside from the standard edition. They were printed by and published by Georges Visat, Paris in 1969. Note: The subject is also known as Le Chapeau rouge [The Red Hat] or Personnages [Figure]. Literature: Spies, W. & Leppien, H. (2006). Max Ernst: The Complete Graphic Work.
