A single print from the original set of 12 lithographic prints produced initially under the title “The World of Muna-Kata”.

At the request of Tankō, the journal of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony, Munakata produced a series of twelve prints to be used as hanging scrolls for the tea-room.

Unlike the austere, seasonal images generally found on hanging scrolls for tea ceremony, the works here are vividly coloured. Munakata used different kanji for Munakata in the Japanese title, substituting Mune or muni (chest) and kata (shoulders) for the usual characters for his name.

A rare and exquisite set of 12 lithographs produced on a very textural Japanese ‘washi’ paper, published by Yaskawa as part of their collaborative calendar project. Sold in original Yaskawa packet.

Dimensions: 31 x 39 cm approx.
