Lawrence ‘Larry’ Zox was born in 1937 in Iowa. He was an American colour-field painter and printmaker, who was also influenced by Lyrical Abstractionism. He often described himself as a colourist. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and Drake University, while he also studies under the guidance of George Grosz at the Des Moines Art Center. Moving to New York at a young age was crucial for his development as an artist, since he had the opportunity to get involved with many prominent artists.
