"In this print themes of youth and fertility are contrasted with age and wisdom as symbolized through the nest and eggs against a depiction of a spider atop a stick, mounted such as a puppet would be. In various North American tribes' stories, the spider is representative of Grandmother. For the artist, this work wrestles with the discomfort of aging. The fox holds the caricature-like grandmother spider in contention with the rabbit holding up a nest filled with black eggs. Each character paws a red winged black bird, either soon to be released or playing dead.” — Julie Buffalohead, 2025
