This soft-ground print created by Luis Jimenez in 1997, was editioned by Flatbed Press.  The mares of the subject matter belonged to Jimenez. He drew them onto the grounded copper plate at his ranch in Hondo, Texas.  The aquatint-like negative space around the mares was created with a liquid softground mixture that mimicked a spit-bite aquatint. The large edition size was for the Dallas Visual Arts Association in 1997.  This impression is a publisher proof from Flatbed Press which is numbered Flatbed III/X.

The Artist

Luis Jimenez

Luis Jimenez was a sculptor and printmaker whose monumental, polychromed fiberglass sculptures dot the American landscape. Drawing upon the culture of Hispanics in America, he presented people of the barrios at work and at play. Sometimes controversial, his works were always honest and heartfelt portrayals of his rich heritage.
