Ridgway combines a soft-ground etching and drawing in this etching of a child’s bonnet. Directly impressed into the soft ground using an antique bonnet onto a copper plate, the image on the plate was etched and then printed onto Rives BFK with a transparent chrome ink mix. Ridgway afterward applies carefully drawn lines into the image with colored pencils that match the ink color in order to emphasize the three-dimensional qualities of this now flat image.
