Circles from The New York Collection for Stockholm
By Sol LeWitt
Sol LeWitt (1928–2007) was a pioneering American artist known for his contributions to Conceptual Art and Minimalism. He believed that the idea behind an artwork was as important as its execution, famously stating, “The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.” LeWitt created wall drawings and structures based on precise instructions or algorithms, often executed by others, emphasizing system and process over individual expression. His work challenged traditional notions of authorship and transformed how art is made and understood.
