Untitled from The New York Collection for Stockholm
By Robert Breer
Robert Breer (1926–2011) was an American avant-garde artist and filmmaker known for his experimental animation and kinetic sculptures. Trained as a painter, Breer brought a painterly sensibility to his films, using hand-drawn images, collage, and stop-motion techniques. His short films, such as A Man and His Dog Out for Air (1957), are celebrated for their playful abstraction and visual rhythm. Breer was also a pioneer in kinetic art, creating moving sculptures that blurred the boundaries between art and motion.
