Broken Promises relates to a painting by Beattie of the same name, and features his characteristic ‘stair’ motif. Senior Academician Beattie describes the image as having ‘psychological and emotional weight’, citing the landmark Abstract Expressionism exhibitions of the late 1950’s as having profoundly influenced him at the time.
