Description:
Damien Hirst is one of the most influential and provocative figures in contemporary art. A pioneering member of the Young British Artists (YBA), he rose to prominence in the 1980s with works that were both conceptually daring and visually impactful. Known as Britain’s most notorious living artist, Hirst is celebrated for iconic creations such as diamond-encrusted human skulls and animals suspended in formaldehyde.
In 2008, he staged the historic auction Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, which achieved £111 million ($198 million). Over the course of his career, Hirst has explored diverse media—sculpture, painting, printmaking, and large-scale installations—continuously challenging the boundaries of artistic practice. Among his most renowned works are the Pill Cabinets, meticulously crafted arrangements of pills in metal, plaster, and resin. In 2017, Phillips New York presented The Void, 2000, the largest piece of this celebrated series ever exhibited in the United States.
