Head Study served as a ‘warm up’ print before the artist started work on the larger portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. While not necessarily a portrait of Dr. King, it is a powerful portrait study and served as an important experience in refamiliarizing the artist with more complex processes of intaglio printmaking.
