Julio Castro Biography

Julio Castro graduated in printmaking from UFRJ in Rio de Janeiro. He also stuedied at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage and Instituto de Artes da UFRGS in Porto Alegre. He participated in the group shows A Paixão do Olhar MAM/RJ; Republic Museum of the Republic-RJ (1993); XV ESTAMPA – International Exhibition of Contemporary Art Prints and Editions in Madrid (2007); Plaisir d’Offrir#2 – Dagmar De Pooter Gallery / Antwerp, Belgium (2009); Rio X Córdoba, Emílio Caraffa Museum, Argentina, among others. Individually, he exhibited in Rio de Janeiro, Pelotas, Porto Alegre, in Lisbon at the Centro Português de Serigrafia (2007) and in Brussels at ARS117 (2009), where he resided as a guest artist. In 2019 he performs a residency at the Ohtawara Cultural Center in Japan where he produces a series of woodcuts. He coordinates Estudio Dezenove, a space dedicated to contemporary art located in Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro and since 2011 he has been a professor in the area of ​​Graphic Image at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. Since 2013, he coordinates the Núcleo Magliani, a reference center for the artist’s work. Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro.
