This original lithograph in colours is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Marc Chagall” at the lower right margin.
It is also inscribed in pencil ‘epreuve d’artiste’, at the lower left margin. It is an artist’s proof aside from the standard edition of 50.
This work was printed in by Fernand Mourlot, Paris and published by Éditions Maeght, Paris.

Provenance: Acquired at a charity gala hosted by Maison d’Enfants “La Sainte Famille”, Cannes, 1986

The Artist

Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall began using printmaking techniques when he was 35 years old. He produced a lot of lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts while residing in Berlin, Germany, during the time. The art dealer Vollard hired Chagall in 1923 to illustrate the Bible, La Fontaine’s Fables, and The Dead Souls by Gogol.
