Series: the Tale of Genji
Genji Monogatari

Fine impression, printed on thick paper (Hôshogami) with blind printing and with use of mineral powders.
Very good colour and condition, minor creases.

The series depicts still lifes including musical instruments associated with the chapters of the Tale of Genji. Other surimono from the same series are at the Metropolitan Museum, New York, Accession Number:JP1976 and at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Accession Number 21.9264

The biwa is a short-necked Japanese lute with 4 or 5 strings, played with a large plectrum.
