This artist is one of the most internationally acclaimed contemporary artists in Japan. She passed away at the age of 107 in March 2021. All her works are based on abstract but dynamic brush strokes originating from Japanese calligraphy. Note the delicate overlap of greys with gold hand-colouring. To Shinoda, the concept and utilisation of the untouched space on the paper is as important as the brush strokes and becomes one with the image. Her lithographs are stone-based and she uses traditional Japanese sumi ink for the brush strokes.
