Damien Hirst’s Spot Paintings have now become a defining motif within his expansive body of work. First emerging in 1988, Hirst estimates he has done over 1,400 unique variations. Opium, exemplifies Hirst’s ongoing fascination with the systematic exploration of colour and form. Executed as Lambda C-Type print on Gloss Fuji Archive paper, the work adopts a square composition. The work reflect Hirst’s conceptual thoroughness and his enduring interest in the intersection of art and science, reinforcing the Spot Paintings’ status as one of the most iconic and widely recognised series in contemporary art.
